BOUT THE KAHAN FAMILY

Tyger Kahn descends from the Priestly Family: Kahana.

Tradition says, the Kahana family is one of the ancient families left from the tribe of Juda. Their ancestors were the "Apples" (Tapuchim), one of the four noble families of Judah and Jerusalem, and taken by Titus to Rome as prisoners and carried through the streets of the city in the year 71. The names of the families were "the Humble" (Anav or Dellmansi or Piatello) "the Apple" (de'Pomis or De'Pomi), "the Reds" (De'Rossi) and "Estate Old Men" (dello Vecchio or De-Vechhi).

Relationship between the "Apple" and Kahana family goes through Rabbi Moshe Halevi Wallerstein, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of the 16th century. His grandson was Rabbi Gershon Shaul Yom-Tov Lipman Heller Wallerstein Halevi (1579-1654), author of Tosafot Yom-Tov. His daughter, Razel, married Rabbi Jacob Joseph Kahana, a Trisk Court Father, who is the father of fathers and families to Kahana Sighet.
